It's hard to pick my three TOP favorites, but I'll give it a shot.
Let's see...these are not in any particular order:
One would be Melville's classic tale of Captain Ahab's revenge against the whale, Moby Dick, who ate the captain's leg. I'd want revenge too.
Another would be Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. The relentless policeman chasing the parole violator. Kind of like...Dog the Bounty Hunter, but in 1815 France.
Then there is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. A story of racial injustice in the south and how people treat each other. A compassionate, dramatic and deeply moving novel.
