The Full Story

Robert M. Brunelle, Author
Aka: Bob

I was born in New Bedford, Mass., and moved to Los Angeles, California in the early 1950s. Shortly thereafter, my family moved to El Monte, which is about 25 miles from Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley .                                  While in elementary school I wrote an article, which was published in the Catholic magazine, Saint Anthony's Messenger. Having my story accepted peaked my interest in writing, and I went on to study Journalism. I later became Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper, The Lion's Trail. I went to Citrus College and was on staff of the college newspaper, The Citrus Owl. I got a job as a reporter for my hometown newspaper, The El Monte Herald. Later, I had a brief stint at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. I changed colleges and attended Rio Hondo College where I earned an Associate Science Degree in Administration of Justice. I attended Cal-State Los Angeles where I studied Criminal Justice, then went to Law School where I earned a Juris Doctorate Degree. I joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1970 because I wanted to do something worthwhile to help others. In 1965 I married my high school sweetheart. We've been happily married ever since. We had 6 children (5 girls, 1 boy), and we now have 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. I have written 5 books: Miracle at Del Norte, 9 Lives of Badge 656., Vice Cop: AKA Super Trick, The Fender: A Novel, and The San Moritz Murders.  Later this year I hope to release my 6th book, The Monte Boys: Vigilante Justice.  It is an Historical Western Fiction novel based on the Las Manillas Gang, which was led by bandits Juan Flores and Pancho Daniel, and the murder of Los Angeles Counties 2nd Sheriff, James R. Barton, and his deputies. The murders resulted in the largest posse ever formed in California.
